ELINCS Specifications
Lab Orders
The ELINCS Orders specification is an HL7 v2.5.1-based implementation guide for the electronic communication of lab test orders from ambulatory electronic health record systems (EHRs) to laboratory information systems. It is designed as a companion document to the ELINCS HL7-R1 results reporting specification. Pilot implementations of the ELINCS Orders specification are slated to begin in early 2012. The complete specification is available for download below.
Lab Results
The ELINCS specification is an HL7 v2.x based message profile for the reporting of lab results from laboratory information systems to ambulatory EHRs. Three versions of ELINCS for Lab Results have been published; the most current is version HL7-R1. See below for the specifications and version change documentation.

HL7 Version 2.5.1 Implementation Guide: Orders and Observations; Ambulatory Care Lab Result (ELINCS), Release 1. The latest version of ELINCS ("ELINCS v.HL7-R1") was approved and published on July 1, 2008, by Health Level Seven (HL7) and is available on the HL7 Web site at www.hl7.org. You can download it if you are an HL7 member or by purchasing it. ELINCS Version 1.1 for Lab Results was published in October 2006 as a minor update to v1.0. Information about the changes in ELINCS version 1.1 may be found under Document Downloads below.

ELINCS Version 1.0 for Lab Results was based on HL7 v2.4 and published in July 2005.
